Welcome to Nuwara Eliya!
Often referred to as ‘Little England’, this genteel highland community does have a rose-tinted, vaguely British-country-village feel to it, with its colonial-era bungalows, Tudor-style hotels, well-tended hedgerows and pretty gardens. Indeed, Nuwara Eliya was once was the favored cool-climate escape for the hard-working and hard-drinking English and Scottish pioneers of Sri Lanka’s tea industry.
A recent construction boom has blighted the scene to a degree, and the dusty and bustling Centre is a thoroughly Sri Lankan urban tangle, but Nuwara Eliya still makes a fine base for a few days’ relaxation. The verdant surrounding countryside of tea plantations, carefully tended vegetable plots and craggy hills is highly scenic. Treat yourself to a night in one of Nuwara Eliya’s colonial hotels, play a round of golf or a few frames of billiards, and soak up the town’s unique bygone heritage.
We’ll pick you up at your hotel in Colombo between 7 and 9 am to drive to Kithulgala. In this beautiful inland Sri Lankan town, we’ll get the adrenaline pumping by rafting on the Kelani Ganga River. You’ll be sure to have fun! After enjoying this experience, you’ll have one hour free for lunch.
Next, we’ll visit the Devon and Saint Clair waterfalls, these spectacular natural landmarks will leave us speechless! The tour will continue in Nuwara Eliya, did you know that it is one of the most beautiful cities in the interior of Sri Lanka? We’ll appreciate its charm with a night tour that will include a tour of the illuminated buildings on the shores of Lake Gregory.
The day will end at a centrally located hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
After breakfast at the Nuwara Eliya hotel, we’ll drive to the outskirts of the city to visit the Hindu temple of Seetha Amman. As soon as you arrive you’ll be captivated by the colorful sculptures. Next, we’ll visit the nearby Haggala Botanical Gardens. Here we’ll discover one of the country’s leading collections of flora.
After a free hour for lunch near Haggala, we’ll visit a tea plantation and factory. Our last stop will be in front of the Ramboda waterfall, which will surely surprise you.
The tour will end returning to your hotel in Colombo, arriving at 7 pm.
